THE HEALING HERD was founded by Laura Turner after a life-changing experience with equine-assisted learning during her recovery from a traumatic brain injury.
After years of anxiety, unresolved grief, and traditional treatments that offered only partial relief, Laura was encouraged by her neurologist to spend time with horses.
What began as a clinical recommendation became a profound turning point. In the steady, nonjudgmental presence of a horse, her nervous system found calm for the first time in years.
That experience became the foundation of THE HEALING HEARD.
WHY HORSES?
Horses have an extraordinary ability to regulate, reflect, and respond without judgment. Research continues to support what many experience firsthand: equine interaction can create meaningful emotional and behavioral shifts.
In their presence, participants learn to:
• Slow down and regulate emotions
• Build confidence and responsibility
• Strengthen communication and life skills
• Experience connection rooted in honesty and presence
This work is not about riding lessons. It is about relationship, accountability, and growth.

Each program is grounded in structure, safety, and the belief that healing and growth are possible for every person.

What began as one woman’s healing journey has grown into a nonprofit committed to creating spaces where horses and humans connect in meaningful, transformative ways.
THE HEALING HERD exists because in a world that often feels disconnected and overstimulated, presence matters. Calm matters. Honest connection matters. Beginning with one steady breath beside a horse.
